The basics

What Full Truckload Shipping Means

Full truckload, or FTL, is exactly what it sounds like. Your freight takes up an entire trailer, and that trailer doesn’t pick up or drop off any other shipments along the way. The truck leaves the origin point loaded with your goods and arrives at the destination with the same load still on board.

That’s the main thing that separates FTL from less than truckload (LTL) shipping. With LTL, your pallets ride alongside freight from other companies, and the trailer stops at multiple terminals to consolidate and redistribute loads. With FTL, there’s no consolidation, no terminal handling in between, and no other shipper’s freight anywhere near yours.

Why Shippers Choose FTL

Fewer stops. Fewer touches. More control.

Your freight moves faster

A dedicated trailer goes straight from pickup to delivery. There’s no waiting for a terminal to fill up other orders or rerouting around someone else’s stops.

Less handling means less risk

Freight gets loaded once and unloaded once. Every additional touchpoint in a shipment’s journey is a chance for something to get damaged, misplaced, or delayed, and FTL cuts nearly all of those touchpoints out.

One driver, one truck, one point of contact

If a question comes up mid-transit, you’re not chasing down which terminal has your freight. You know exactly where it is and who’s driving it.

It’s the more secure option

Since the trailer isn’t opened for other pickups or drop-offs along the route, your cargo stays sealed and untouched until it reaches its destination.

Is it the right fit?

Is FTL the Right Fit for Your Shipment?

Full truckload generally makes sense once you’re shipping close to a trailer’s capacity — roughly ten or more pallets, though the right cutoff depends on weight, dimensions, and how the freight is packed. A few situations where FTL is usually the better call:

Full truckload freight loaded on Aboudi Ventures trailer

Your shipment is large enough to fill most or all of a 53-foot trailer.

Careful freight handling by Aboudi Ventures

You’re moving high-value or fragile freight that shouldn’t be handled more than necessary.

Aboudi Ventures truck on tight delivery schedule

Your delivery window is tight and you can’t afford the extra time that comes with multi-stop routing.

Sealed trailer freight transported by Aboudi Ventures

You need the load to stay sealed and untouched from pickup to delivery.

If your shipment is smaller and doesn’t come close to filling a trailer, LTL will almost always be the more cost-effective route. We’re glad to look at your freight details and tell you honestly which service fits better — there’s no advantage to us putting you in a full truckload you don’t need.
Equipment We Run

The right trailer for what you’re shipping

Most full truckload shipments move in standard 53-foot dry van trailers, which work for the large majority of palletized and boxed freight. Tell us what you’re shipping and we’ll match it to the right trailer, rather than defaulting to whatever’s available.

Dry Van

53-foot standard trailers

The workhorse of FTL, sized for the large majority of palletized and boxed freight.

Reefer

Temperature-controlled loads

Refrigerated trailers capable of holding precise temperatures for produce, dairy, pharmaceuticals, and other perishable goods.

Flatbed / Step Deck

Oversized freight

For loads that are oversized or don’t fit inside an enclosed trailer, we run flatbed or step-deck equipment instead.
